Strong legs, steady balance, fewer worries
After 60, muscle fades faster than most people expect. AARP puts the loss at up to 8 percent per decade, with more after 60, and it shows up in small ways first: a low couch that is harder to leave, a curb that feels taller, a suitcase that stays at the bottom of the stairs.
Strength and balance training reverses much of that. Our senior fitness programs focus on the muscles and movements you use every day, like standing up, stepping, carrying and turning, and build them slowly and safely so you stay independent and ready for the trips, rounds of golf and family visits on your calendar.
Is senior fitness training right for you?
A good fit if
- Getting up from the floor or a low chair takes more effort than it used to.
- You’ve had a fall, or a close call, and want to feel steady on your feet again.
- You want to keep hiking, golfing or traveling and want your body ready for it.
- You’ve had a joint replaced or a surgery and want to rebuild with someone careful.
- You worry you’re too old to start. You aren’t. Muscle responds to strength training at 70 and 80 too.
Probably not a fit if
- You want a fast-paced class where everyone does the same workout.
How it works
We look at balance, leg strength, how you rise from a chair and how you walk. Nothing strenuous, just a clear starting point.
Strength, balance and mobility work chosen for your body and goals, two or three times a week at home, at your club or outdoors.
Weights and challenges increase gradually as you get stronger, so you feel the progress without flare-ups.

Questions, answered
What are the best exercises for seniors?
The most useful exercises for older adults combine strength, balance and mobility: sit-to-stands, step-ups, rows, carries, heel raises and single-leg balance work. Done two or three times a week with the right weights, they make everyday tasks like stairs, groceries and getting up from the floor easier.
How often should seniors do strength training?
Health guidelines from the National Institute on Aging and ACSM recommend muscle-strengthening activity at least two days a week for older adults. Most of our senior fitness clients train two or three times a week, with balance work included in every session.
Can you build muscle after 70?
Yes. Muscle responds to strength training at any age, including in your 70s and 80s. Progress comes from steady, gradually heavier work over months. Many clients notice easier stairs and steadier balance within the first several weeks.
Can balance training help prevent falls?
Yes. Balance exercises combined with leg strength training improve stability and coordination, which lowers the risk of falling. Training also builds the confidence to keep moving, which matters because fear of falling often leads people to do less.
Is strength training safe with osteoporosis or a joint replacement?
With your doctor’s guidance, yes. Strength and balance training is commonly recommended to support bone density and recovery. Programs avoid movements that are unsafe for your condition, start light and progress carefully.
How much does senior fitness training cost?
Private sessions start at $120. The total depends on how often you train and where. Your private consultation covers your goals and health history so we can recommend the right plan.
Do you offer senior fitness training at home?
Yes. Sessions can take place in your home, at your club or outdoors in Dublin, Danville, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Alamo and Livermore. Your coach brings the equipment.
