Lose the weight. Keep the muscle.

After 50, most diets take muscle along with the fat. You weigh less, but stairs feel harder and the weight finds its way back. Weight loss training puts strength first: two or three sessions a week of lifting and walking, plus a few food habits you can keep at a dinner party, on a trip to Maui or on a busy Tuesday.

Francisco has coached people through every kind of weight loss for 23 years, including clients who had tried everything and clients with knees or backs that ruled out the usual boot camp. The plan bends around your body, and nothing is pushed through pain.

Is this right for you?

A good fit if

  • You have 20, 50 or 100 pounds to lose and you’re done with programs that only work for six weeks.
  • You want to look better in photos and feel strong enough to say yes to the hike, the trip and the grandkids.
  • Old injuries or sore knees have made you nervous about exercise.
  • You’d rather have one coach who knows you than a crowded class.

Probably not a fit if

  • You want a crash diet or a 30-day transformation. We build habits that last years.

Questions, answered

Can a personal trainer help me lose weight after 50?

Yes. After 50 the biggest gains come from strength training, which protects muscle while you lose fat, combined with daily walking and a few steady food habits. A personal trainer plans the right load for your joints, keeps you consistent and adjusts as you progress, which is where most people stall on their own.

How much weight can I expect to lose with a trainer?

Most people can safely lose about one to two pounds a week once training and eating habits are steady. The pace depends on your starting point, sleep, stress and medications. Clients at The Fit Potato have lost anywhere from a few pounds to over 100, and the goal is always to keep it off.

Do I have to follow a strict diet?

No. Strict diets rarely last. Francisco works on two or three changes at a time, like more protein at breakfast or fewer evening snacks, built around how you already eat, travel and entertain. Small changes that stick do more than a perfect plan you quit.

How often should I train to lose weight?

Two to three strength sessions a week plus daily walking works for most people over 50. That gives muscles time to recover while keeping your metabolism and energy up. Your coach sets the schedule around your joints, your calendar and how your body responds.

Is weight loss training safe with bad knees or back pain?

Yes, when the program is built around them. Exercises are chosen and scaled so you train hard without aggravating old injuries, and nothing is pushed through pain. If you are under a doctor’s or physical therapist’s care, we work within their guidance.

How much does weight loss personal training cost?

Private sessions start at $150. Most clients train two or three times a week, and your coach will recommend a schedule that fits your goals and budget during your private consultation.
